The measurement chain, on the instrument

Pre-incorporationPlanned HQ · RiyadhVerification publishes 15 Jan 2027

A frequency-agile aperture, a signal-processing core set, and inference that runs where the sensor is — so a tank, a silo or a pipeline can be measured continuously, without contact, without raw data leaving the site, and inside a small power budget.

Status, stated once. UVU is pre-incorporation. There is no revenue, no customer, no certification and no installed base. The aperture is at laboratory readiness and has never been installed in a real vessel. The signal-processing cores are authored and, until the verification programme publishes, unverified.

The problem

A non-contact radar level gauge in a Gulf process plant faces four things at once: dense electromagnetic interference from motors, pumps and welding; a fluid whose dielectric constant moves with temperature and blend; vapour turbulence that generates false echoes; and an enclosed metal vessel behaving as a resonant cavity. Ambient temperature regularly exceeds 50 °C, which shifts the electrical behaviour of the antenna substrate itself.

Stilling wells, careful mounting and modern narrow-beam transmitters solve most of this, and solve it well. Our interest is the residual — retrofit installations with no clear mounting line, agitated vessels, bulk solids with irregular surfaces, and sites where interference rather than geometry is what binds.

The three parts

Aperture

Aperture

An active, fluoropolymer-free tunable interposer — one physical aperture across the band, so a single front end replaces several fixed-frequency antennas. Laboratory readiness. Never in a real vessel.

Signal processing

Filtering and decimation, a transform into frequency bins, and adaptive thresholding that finds the surface return in changing clutter at a controlled false-alarm rate. Authored in VHDL under a completed national research programme, with Python golden reference models. Authored. Verification publishes 15 January 2027.

On-instrument inference

The full chain runs on the instrument. Only the measurement leaves the site — not the raw signal.

We publish what we do not yet know

The verification programme for the signal-processing cores runs from 5 October 2026 and publishes on 15 January 2027 — including the defect list we found in our own audit.
